There’s a huge debate going on about polyester or cotton socks. While the debate may never end, it’s safe to say that most people will side with cotton when it comes down to comfort, durability and overall look and feel. But what about price? Here’s a quick look at a few different pair of socks and what their overall pros and cons are.
If you’re looking for the most comfortable type of sock material then you should be looking at either cotton or polyester. Cotton socks tend to be made out of a breathable cotton/opolyester mix. Cotton-opolyester blends are especially good for hiking as they also tend to wick away moisture from your feet. While both cotton and polyester are very comfortable, the former is slightly more durable and better for outdoor wear. Polyester on the other hand is a bit cheaper and offers a higher degree of comfort, but also tends to be a weaker material.
Another big debate that you’ll find revolves around the fact that polyester vs cotton socks have a natural shine to them. While both types of socks can be brushed to a high sheen, polyester socks tend to be duller than cotton due to the nature of the fiber. For this reason polyester is often used to create brighter, more reflective socks. Cotton on the other hand, is very durable and can be brushed to a low sheen which gives it a bright sheen. The main deciding factor really comes down to personal preference and the amount of wear and tear, you’re willing to put into your feet.
